What is this site? The goal of this site is to help you learn about Light-O-Rama (LOR) in an easy to read, and easy to understand format. Information about various parts of the LOR system is categorized into (hopefully) logical sections for you to read. The FAQ has many questions about LOR that people have asked on the past. The troubleshooting section is there for you when you encounter a problem. Information on this site is gathered from various sources including various Internet forums, personal experiences, and communications with the employees of LOR.

This project is not run by Light-O-Rama, Inc. However, LOR is aware of the site, and includes links to this site from their message board, web site and printed material. The authors of this site communicate with LOR on a regular basis to help ensure the quality of the data. However, users of this site are encouraged to verify this information before use. The project can not be held liable for your use of this information.

Showtime Suite II (S2) is a major leap forward in computerized animation software. S2's intuitive interface was designed so a novice or a lighting professional can produce spectacular results. First time lighting enthusiasts have found S2 simple to use. Professionals who dig into the advanced features are surprised that such an inexpensive package delivers so much power. An extensive Beta and Gamma testing program involving 100s of real users has resulted in software that you can trust.

Upgrading to LOR2 PDF Print
Written by Don Teague

Dan Baldwin posted the following on the LOR Forums. For those of you wanting to know how you will upgrade to the full version of LOR 2. (Note: Right now LOR2 is a Gamma version.)

The full version of S2 (with license support) will be available for download from our website and store. The download will be free and it will be available to everyone. It will take a key to be activated (other than demo mode which cannot control lights).

Existing owners of the LOR software will get a free key. This key will unlock all features of the S2 software.

To get the key, people will go to the LOR store and purchase a (free) LOR1 to S2 upgrade. When you purchase this upgrade, the store will verify that you have purchased the LOR I software. If there is not a match you will be handled manually. In any case you will get a key.

The timeout on the 2.0.14 is the last day of June. We plan to have everything in place before that date.

Dan

The LOR Wiki 2.0 site got its start as the "LORWiki" back in May of 2006 with the idea that people would contribute their knowledge of LOR to the project to benefit everyone. The format was similar in nature to the Wikipedia web site, where anyone could add or edit the information. While the site was referred to often, and even included on the LOR site and documentation, the level of participation wasn't enough to keep the content current. In April 2008, the site was redesigned and the Wiki portion of the site was dropped. Content is now added by the site owners and trusted associates.

S2 News - Dan Baldwin (June 2008) PDF Print
Written by Harrison Ward

Hi,

Just wanted to keep everyone informed of what is happening with the S2 software. The story:

Originally I was going to maintain both LOR I and S2. LOR I would be a lower priced entry level of software: (around $29) and S2 would be the full featured premium software. After all, LOR I (me talking) is probably better and more reliable than any other software on the market (except S2) and certainly more people have created their own Christmas light shows with LOR I than any other software on the market. So a lower priced LOR I would be a great way for people to get started and they could upgrade to S2 when then could afford it. (that was my thinking at least)

About a month ago I started to rethink things and a couple of weeks ago changed the rules. It seemed smarter to have only S2 but to have different levels (for example) Basic, Standard and Professional. The basic version would be a low priced entry and would be missing most of the new features that differentiate LOR1 and S2. This way we would only have to maintain one version of code and things would be a bit easier for us. However that leads to a more complicated licensing scheme. Everyone would have the same code but the license level would control the feature levels. We would have to maintain a database of what level everyone currently has so we know if they are eligible for a particular upgrade at a particular price.

It is because of this more complicated licensing and the fact that time was already spent on LOR I to do licensing that we fell behind on our June release date.

But it turns out that last week I changed my mind again…. Can you imagine having to work with me and be working on this code! Now this last change will not push out the release date of the licensed code and the idea falls into the exact model we are building but it again changes the rules.

If you are contemplating starting with LOR then I recommend that you wait until the June 21 sale to buy software!

Regardless of what plans I come up with to marketing the LOR S2 software, existing LOR I software owners will be getting the highest level of S2 at no charge.

LOR Sale PDF Print
Written by Don Teague

Details of the annual LOR sale have been released. Dan Baldwin, the owner of Light-O-Rama, posted the following information to the LOR Forums.

"The sale will start Sat June 21, the first day of summer. The discounts run 10% to 20% (maybe more) depending on the item.

Every year we have something special. This year some people are going to get their orders (everthing including shipping and handling) for free. Here is how it is going to work.

Once the sale is completed, we are going to randomly pick orders. If an order is $2500 or less, the customer pays nothing. If the order is more than $2500 then we will give a $2500 discount on the order.

We will continue to pick orders until we hit $10,000.00 That means if we are at $9,950.00 and the next order picked is $1000 then we will give the $1000 order away for free and stop.

The fewest winners we will have is 4 but I expect there to be between 15 and 20 people that will end up getting their orders for free."
